Congratulations to Nick for the publication of his paper Insights into Spray Development from Metered-Dose Inhalers Through Quantitative X-ray Radiography in the journal Pharmaceutical Research. This is the culmination of our work with the Woolcock Institute, Chieisi Farmaceuti, and Argonne National Laboratories Advanced Photon Source.

The paper describes the use of x-ray radiography techniques to study pharmaceutical flows, in this case flows from an electronic metered inhaler (EMI) – an analogue to the standard asthma puffer. The application of this new measurement technique allowed Nick and the team to demonstrate that the flow leaving the nozzle is mostly vapour by volume – not liquid as previously thought by some researchers.
